A Four Part Series on Tips for Making College Basketball Predictions
Tips for Making NCAA College Basketball Predictions.
Part 1 - Division 1 Teams vs No Name Schools
Basketball fans love to watch the big games. Teams like Duke, UConn, North Carolina, Arizona, Ohio State, Michigan St etc get the most fans out and tend to get the most national coverage… and thus these games tend to get the most attention from the bookmakers. This leads to more accurate lines and less opportunity for profit from wagering.
The smaller regional games tend to get less attention and often present opportunities for profit from soft lines. With hundreds of games each week and up to 80+ on College Basketball Saturdays it’s very difficult for linemakers to make accurate numbers on each game. When they make mistakes this presents opportunities for Sharp players to make money.
One of the best ways to identify a soft line is to look at the regional games between teams who have very different strength of schedule. If there is a game between a team with a losing record who has played mostly powerhouse teams against a team with a winning record who faced mostly smaller regional teams this often presents a soft line. Make sure you examine strength of schedule carefully to identify these golden nuggets.
